Doom_and_Dead Many of the songs seem to revolve around finding ways to survive the world’s cruelty. Light & Grace is particularly eerie and bittersweet, with intricate instrumentation, brooding hooks, and a white-hot guitar solo that risks setting your hair ablaze.

Beacon is an even grimmer offering, with a creeping pace and melancholy melody ready to tempt any doom fan into the realm of dark rock. I, for one, have been ensnared.

Scott Spiers When the ear candy of The Great Grey Funk emitted their highly refined and masterfully produced compositions through my daily headphones, I knew I had a reason to reach for the Big Guys, the Sennheiser HD800S's. As much as I need a bit of dirt and generally prefer the sound and energy of a live recording, there is a place and time for this kind of polished presentation. The song craft and musical ability of this group is stunning! Favorite track: Beacon.

If you like to live on the edge and have no regard for mindless compliance or conformity, this might just be the ticket. But I gotta warn you, Auralayer's Thousand Petals is probably going to duke it out for Album of the Year at Clean and Sober Stoner, maybe even the Doom Charts, against the likes of Hail the Void, Faery Ring, Snakemother and Acid King.
